We optimise Gelagri’s cold storage warehouse with mobile racking systems

• We have created around 12,000 Euro pallet positions in the new freezer chamber in Milagro.
• Our Mobile Racking Systems optimise the refrigerated volume and help maintain a uniform temperature of -24 °C.

We have completed a new cold storage installation for Gelagri Ibérica at its site in Milagro, Navarra. The project increases its cold storage capacity through a solution designed to make maximum use of more than 5,000 m² of surface area and the available volume in the new freezer chamber.

The installation reaches almost 12 metres in height and offers capacity for around 12,000 Euro pallets. To meet Gelagri’s needs, we have combined our Mobile Racking Systems with Drive-in Compact Racking Systems, creating a high-density solution designed to operate reliably at a constant temperature of -24 °C.

With the mobile racking systems, we reduce the space occupied by permanent aisles and concentrate greater storage capacity within an optimised refrigerated volume. This allows Gelagri to improve the cost associated with each refrigerated cubic metre and have direct access to the pallets stored in the mobile system, facilitating the traceability and rotation of its different references, batches and expiry dates.

We have also incorporated our night-time configuration, a functionality that opens the aisles evenly during periods of inactivity. This layout facilitates the constant circulation of air through the goods, prevents temperature differences inside the chamber and helps optimise the operation of the refrigeration equipment.

Our engineering team developed the design and layout of the installation taking into account the conditions of the cold storage environment, the resistance of the materials and the need to meet a particularly demanding schedule. The solution includes high-strength galvanised elements to ensure suitable performance against cold and corrosion.

We completed the assembly and commissioning in nine weeks, maintaining continuous coordination with Gelagri and the other companies involved. This joint work made it possible to deliver the approximately 12,000 new pallet positions within the agreed timeframe and begin full operation of the chamber.
