At AR Racking we have successfully completed the new cold storage warehouse for  Productos Congelados Selectos SL (PCS) in Picassent, Valencia. The installation is now fully completed and operational, strengthening PCS's cold storage capacity with an industrial storage solution designed to ensure efficiency, accessibility and safety in a -25 °C environment.

For this project, we installed an AR PAL adjustable pallet racking system in a very narrow aisle configuration, with a height of 12 metres and six load levels, including floor level. The solution provides capacity for 10,368 Euro pallets measuring 800 × 1,200 mm and weighing up to 700 kg each, maximising the use of the available space through very narrow aisles and enabling agile management of frozen inventory.

“After assessing different storage options, we prioritised direct access over high-density storage. As we handle a large number of medium- and low-turnover SKUs, we needed a system that would guarantee 100% immediate access to every batch. The combination of conventional static pallet racking and very narrow aisles met that requirement perfectly,” explains Jorge Álvarez, Engineering Director and PCS project lead.

The cold storage warehouse has been optimised for operation in very narrow aisles using wire-guided VNA trucks, improving manoeuvring accuracy, keeping each truck within its defined route and reducing operating times inside the cold store. With this configuration, PCS has an infrastructure designed to maximise storage capacity, maintain the continuity of the cold chain and respond more flexibly to its logistics requirements.

“The challenge was not only capacity, but also operational control. The key benefit of this infrastructure is that it allows us to completely decouple our operations by physically separating the bulk storage buffer from the order preparation area. This means that we can handle full pallets at the loading bays and carry out intensive picking on the mezzanine at the same time, without either operation interfering with or disrupting the other,” says Alberto Chust, Logistics Director at PCS.

The partnership with PCS began in October 2023 and has enabled the development of a bespoke storage solution designed to maximise every available cubic metre and support the company's growth. From the initial analysis through to commissioning, our team has worked to deliver a robust, safe and scalable system.

With this project, we continue to advance industrial storage solutions for cold storage facilities that combine capacity, efficiency and long-term reliability. The commissioning of PCS's warehouse in Picassent reinforces our commitment to innovation and to developing systems tailored to each customer's specific requirements.
