Combination of storage systems to cope with Austral Group’s increased demand
The fishing company Austral Group S.A.A. requested from the industrial storage specialist AR Racking the expansion project for its warehouse at Chancay, eighty kilometres north of Lima.
Specialised in fish production and marketing, preserved fish, fish-meal and fish oil, Austral Group saw the need to boost its operations at the Chancay plant due to the increase in demand for its products. AR Racking installed a combination of several storage systems to help Austral Group achieve more competitiveness in its logistics operations.
For the warehouse expansion, it opted for a longspan shelving solution for the manual storage of small and medium-sized products. Two storage solutions were installed for the pallet loads: firstly, Drive in compact pallet racking, which enables high-density storage, and secondly, adjustable pallet racking, designed for faster moving loads that require direct access.
“We contacted AR Racking due to the urgent need to increase our intralogistics capacity and the truth is that they completed the project in a super competitive time and fully adapted to our needs so as to immediately boost our operations”, explained Pedro Cieza, Warehouse Manager of the Chancay Plant.

Belonging to the Norwegian group Austevoll Group S.A.A., its Peruvian subsidiary currently employs more than 1,200 people. Austral has 4 fish-meal and fish-oil plants, 2 preserved fish plants and 1 frozen fish plant strategically distributed along the Peruvian coast, as well as a fleet consisting of 19 operating vessels whose total storage capacity is 10,013.38 m3.
